Shohel Rahman Badal

Shohel Rahman Badal (Coordinator) reported on behalf of the committee. He said that the shipment will be done through an Agency. He explained that a total of 1,15,200 pounds of clothes are needed in order to make the container shipment to Bangladesh free. This amounts to a total of 2 containers. The calculation of the Agency is as follows:  Each container holds 48 boxes, and each box holds 1200 pounds of clothes. So, each container holds 1200 x 48 = 57,600 pounds of clothes. Therefore 2 containers hold 57,600 x 2 = 1,15,200 pounds of clothes. The Agency does the sorting, washing, dis-infecting, boxing under high pressure, loading and shipping. If the amount of clothes is less than 2 containers, then the shipment will go to some Muslim country, but that shipment will not be guranteed to Bangladesh. In order to gurantee the shipment to Bangladesh, a minimum of 2 containers of clothes are required. So, a target of 1,20,000 pounds (one Lack twenty thousand pounds) of clothes is a reasonable goal for us, considering the sorting by the Agency. Shohel Rahman Badal emphasized the need for storage area for these clothes during the collection period. So, he is requesting all of our community members to please let him know if you can kindly offer your garage or some room storage area to store these clothes for this interim collection period of a few weeks. The next date for collection of clothes will be announced later on. The contact information of this committee members are given above, and they are: Badal, Babul, Bob, Humayun and Khukon.

Item – 5:   BUFLA Registration Update:

BUFLA has been registered as a nonprofit organization of the State of California. The application for this registration was submitted on January 18, 2007, and the Secretary of State Debra Bowen approved and signed it on January 20, 2007. This approved document was presented to the whole team in this meeting. The state ID number for BUFLA is 2910737.  The Franchise Tax Board has recorded this number as the California state tax ID number, and has confirmed it with a letter.  This nonprofit status was required to get the venue on Harvard Blvd for the Bangladesh day celebration on April 1, 2007.

The IRS has also issued a tax ID number on phone for the Federal tax purposes. This ID number (EIN) is 83-0471430.  This ID number has been confirmed by a written letter by the IRS. This IRS letter will be used to open the bank account for BUFLA.

The remaining item to make it a 501(c)(3) entity is to fill out the 1023 form along with the Bylaws. The Ad-hoc committee for constitution (as stated in the next item) is working on the Bylaws, and as soon as it is ready, then the 1023 form will be submitted.

Item – 6:   Ad-hoc Committee formation for BUFLA Constitution:

An Adhoc committee has been formed by the team to draft the BUFLA constitution. The committee members are as follows:

213-200-0984

Ismail Hossain

Majib Siddiquee

213-820-9511

Zahid Hossain Pintu

213-923-0877

This Adhoc committee for Constitution has been requested to please prepare the draft of the Bylaws and submit it to the whole team within a reasonable amount of time.

Item – 7:   (Next meeting Date)

The next meeting date was set for February 25, 2007, but because of the 2 community events on that day (evening) (as posted in the Community Calendar Section of the BUFLA website at www.bufla.com), it has been recommended to hold the BUFLA meeting on March 4, 2007, Sunday,  from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Shatto Recreation Center, 3191 W. 4th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020. (on 4th Street near Vermont).

Note:  Since the April 1, 2007 is very near, and the monthly BUFLA meeting is not adequate to accomodate all the preparations that are needed within this short remaining period of time, so, it has been planned to hold weekly meetings of a small group of people which will mostly consist of the coordinators of different committees. They will then report the details of the updates to the whole team on March 4, 2007

The meeting adjourned at 5:00 PM.

Respectfully,
