Minutes of the BUFLA-EC Meeting

January 6, 2008,  Sunday,  2PM to 4 PM

Shatto Recreation Center, 3191 W. 4th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020

Summary of the Meeting-Minutes:

 

1.   About 20 people attended this meeting.

2.   Designated seatings with labels were introduced in this mtg for the organizational representatives and for the Media/Press personnel.

3.   Assignment Acceptance form was introduced in this mtg for the Action committee members.

4.   Several Action committees gave their activities reports updates.

5.   The next Parade is on March 30, 2008. The parade will start at Shatto, and will end at Shatto via Shatto place, 6th Street, Vermont and 4th Street.

6.  The Bangladesh Day celebration with Parade is now being prepared for a 2 days event, with Seminar on March 29, 2008, Saturday, and Parade on March 30, 2008, Sunday,  followed by Cultural programs. Stage performance and booths on both days.

7.   Next BUFLA meetings are on January 20,  February 3, and February 17, 2008  (Sundays starting at 2 PM).

The meeting continued as follows:

 

Agenda Discussion:

 

At first the Agenda of the meeting was presented and discussed. It was unanimously approved. Then the meeting started.

 

 

Item – 1:   The Action Committees Reports:

 

(i)   Venue and parade Route: 

 

Major Kutubi gave an update report on behalf of this committee. There were several meetings this last week, with (i) (a) Shatto Management and (b) LA City council representatives, (ii) DOT (Dept of Transportation), (iii) The Bureau of Street Services, and (iv) the LAPD (Police Dept). All relevant applications are in place for two days of events (March 29-30). The followup meetings with these departments will continue.

 

(ii)   Stage setup, booth setup, booth collection, sound system, etc.:

(iv)   Stage Control:

 

(v)   Inviting dignitaries: 

 

For this committee, Jalil Khan and Ismail Hossain gave the update presentations. They proposed the dignitaries list to include the Governor of California, the LA-Mayor, Dr. Yunus, and Al Gore. Ismail Hossain stated that he will get the confirmation of Dr. Yunus and Al Gore by February 20, 2008.

                                                                                              

(vi)   Cultural Program:

 

Dr. Hashem gave an update for this committee, and stated that he is talking with different cultural talents of our community including Ali Ashraf Runu, in order to present a very rich cultural program this time. He will have another update in the next meeting.

 

(vii)   Fund raising:

 

There were some discussion about this fund raising item, but no solid plans yet.

 

(viii)   Souvenir: 

 

Majib Siddique made a presentation on behalf of this committee. They are working on the format, contents and other aspects of the Souvenir. Regarding the 5,000 copies of the Souvenir, he commented that if the fund is there, then it can be done. He indicated that the cost of Souvenir last year was about $2 per copy.

Item – 2:   Miscellaneous:

 

(1)  This is the first time that the designated seating arrangements were introduced with labels for the organizational representatives. The Press/Media area was also specifically designated.

 

(2)   This is the first time that the Assignment Acceptance form was introduced for the Action Committee members. Many of the attendees filled out this form.

 

(3)   Zahid Hossain Pintu attended this BUFLA meeting for the first time after the last year’s Parade. He asked to give a talk for a few minutes at the beginning of this meeting. Although his requested speech has not been part of agenda items, BUFLA EC members, after some discussions, approved a motion which allowed him to speak at the beginning of the meeting. Some of the BUFLA EC members made their short responses after his speech. Then as soon as the regular Agenda items of the meeting were started, he left the meeting.

 

(4)   There was an attendee in this meeting who was very disruptive during this meeting, and annoyed many of the attendees. This same attendee was similarly disruptive during the previous two meetings as well. There is a very broad-based request and appeal to take some action about this attendee in the next meeting.

Next meetings are on January 20, 2008, February 3, and February 17, 2008. The location is the Shatto Recreation Center, 3191 W. 4th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020, starting at 2 PM.
