Minutes of the Meeting

September 16, 2007,  Sunday,  2PM to 4 PM

Summary of the Meeting-Minutes:

 

1.     About 20 people attended this meeting representing 13 different Organizations.

2.     36 organizations have filled out the BUFLA membership form. Several other organizations have expressed willingness to fill out the form.

3.     BUFLA EC Members to-date have been determined.

4.     BUFLA Constitution has been RATIFIED.

5.     The names of AC (Advisory Council) members have been suggested.

6.     Next General Body meeting is on October 21, 2007, Sunday starting at 2 PM at Shatto. The BUFLA Presidential election will take place in that meeting.

The Agenda of the mtg was as follows:

 

 

1.  Membership review committee report, and Determination of EC members and Associate members.

 

2.  Constitution committee report, and then Vote on Constitution

 

3.  Open invitation for suggestion of names of the AC members. Then BOT selection.

 

4.   Next meeting Date

 

5.  Close of the meeting.

 

 

The meeting continued as follows:

 

Agenda Discussion:

 

At first the Agenda of the meeting was presented and discussed. It was unanimously approved. Then the meeting started.

 

 

Item – 1:   The BUFLA Membership review committee Report:

 

The committee (Omar Huda, Qudus Khan, Shah M Alam) presented their report. They announced the names of all 36 organizations who have filled out the BUFLA membership forms. Those 36 organizations are in Bold-Black in the list of organizations in the table below in Item 2.

 

During this presentation, a motion was moved by Omar Huda, and seconded by Quddus Khan. The Motion is as follows:

 

Motion: All organizations who are less than one year old at this time, but participated in the last parade on April 1, 2007, will qualify to be on the BUFLA-EC now.

 

This motion was unanimously approved.

 

The approval of this motion qualified BAVOA and Uttoron Sangit Academy to be on the BUFLA-EC at this time.

 

The committee identified three organizations to be Associate members, and they are:  Shushil Shamaj of California, Bangladesh Taxi Workers’ Association of Los Angeles, and Sangbadik Union of LA. They can become EC members next year.  The other 33 organizations were determined as the BUFLA-EC members.

  

 

Item – 2:   The Constitution Committee report, and Vote:

 

The constitution committee (Dr. M. A. Hashem, Abul Kashem Toha, Zainul Abedin, Majib Siddiquee, and Mohammad Jilani Sadiq) made their presentation. Two members were present as written first. They gave a detailed background of the long journey and hard work of many hours and days and months to prepare this Constitution, and then to finalize it with various feedback from the whole community. The committee was thankful to everyone who gave feedback to improve the constitution.

 

At this time, the vote was conducted on the BUFLA-Constitution by the Constitution Committee. All votes were in favor, as shown by the X mark in the Yes column in the table below, and so the constitution was unanimously approved. The BUFLA-Constitution was RATIFIED. It was a historic milestone for BUFLA.

 

At the request of the Consitution committee, the EC members signed right on the Master copy of the Constitution. They also signed on the Voting records list.

 

The whole team thanked the Constitution Committee and also gave them a big applause for their hard work and for this milestone accomplishment. Then, at the request of the constitution committee, Br. Ali Akbar did a special du’a for the continued success of BUFLA, and also for the wellbeing of the community.

Item – 3:   AC member suggestions and BOT Selection:

 

At this time, there was an open invitation to the team to suggest the names of the Advisory Committee members who have earned recognition in the community for their previous community services in various ways. A long list of 39 names were suggested in this meeting. This list can not be published now, without the approval of the suggested persons themselves. That list will be confirmed and then the BOT will be formed as soon as possible.

 

 

Item – 4:   (Next meeting Date)

 

The next meeting date is on October 21, 2007, Sunday,  from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Shatto Recreation Center, 3191 W. 4th Street, Los Angeles , CA 90020.  The BUFLA Presidential election will take place in that meeting.
